WINTER PROGRAM INFORMATION
PRECANSKATE Action, movement and fun! Lessons are given in a group format with a coach to student ratio of a maximum 1:10. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, upbeat music and a wide variety of activities that create a motivational environment and promote learning. Ages 3-6 years.

CANSKATE Based on Sport Canada's long term development (LTD) principles, CanSkate centres on physical literacy and the fundamental skills needed to take part in any ice sport or to skate as a recreation activity. CanSkate offers a complete series of balance, control, and agility skills taught in six stages of learning that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating as well as general recreational skating. Ages 5-12 years.

JUNIOR STAR This program is designed for CanSkaters who are interested in transitioning to the StarSkate figure skating program. Skaters will continue to work on their CanSkate badges, as well as learning figure skating elements towards their Star 1 transition. Tues and Thurs night sessions includes 45 min of on-ice small group instruction from Regional to Nationally Certified Coaches. Ages 5-10. Prerequisite: CanSkate Stage 3.

STARSKATE 1 – GOLD
Skaters will develop figure skating skills in the area of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and artistic skating. In StarSkate, skaters are taught in a group lesson format and transition to a combination of group and private lessons beginning in Star 3. Skaters will progress through a series of Skate Canada assessments and may choose to compete in open, invitational and qualifying events. Ages 6—18. Prerequisite: CanSkate Stage 6

The Kenora Skating Academy offers a variety of programming for skaters of every age and skill level. Click on the links below for a description of each program from Skate Canada.
CanSkate (includes precanskate, canskate hockey skills, and Junior star)
Programs run Tuesday and Thursday nights from October to December and Jan to March.
The CanSkate Excellence Recognition Program rewards Ontario Clubs/Skating Schools that are implementing best practices in the delivery of their CanSkate programs. We are very proud to have achieved the highest level of recognition for our CanSkate program and ExceededStandard. |

We offer winter, spring, summer, and fall programs for all levels of StarSkate. Skaters may choose from 3 morning and 4 evening skate times in the winter session. All sessions include on-ice development. Small group and/or private lessons are billed separately. Meetings are held with each skater annually in order to set goals for the season and develop a lesson schedule that suits their budget.
